The love of John continues...
Good morning sweet friends, If you missed me on Friday, I felt led to walk with you through the epistles of John, so today I continue that journey. I decided to do this in part, because I pray it will get you in the Word with me, and in part, because it speaks so much of the truth I am seeing manifest in my life right now. And when you see the truth of the Word activated in your life, you can't help but share it:)
Friday, we looked at the first seven verses of 1 John and our calling to walk in the light. (I encourage you to read Friday, if you missed it;) The completion of Chapter 1 verses 8-10 while simple has a powerful message...the power of repentance. You see, you don't have to digest an entire chapter in one sitting, but even two verses can sit with you and speak volumes and offer so much healing.
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is FAITHFUL and just to CLEANSE us and PURIFY us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:8-9
I feel we too often want to run through this cleansing process. Yes, I absolutely believe that God can in an instant take everything from us that we battle.....in an instant it can be gone....we can be delivered!
However, I do see the value of sitting with Him and pulling out all that needs to be cleansed. If we don't, we risk leaving a foothold for the enemy to create a stronghold. Cleansing is healing, and it is warfare too. We must deal. We must release. We must cleanse. I have been listening to "Clear the Stage" several times a day for several days now, because a precious friend said that God often speaks to us through songs and when songs are on our hearts there may also be a message. This song is about idols. You see, we can get to a place where we say....Well, I'm not near about on the path that "they" are, or at least I'm not who I use to be. And we settle where we are. We justify things in our life, because we measure it against others instead of pressing in for the MORE He has for us. And we are missing it, and perhaps Him, when we fall into this trap.
God said, have no idols before me. Idols aren't as easily seen as an addiction or sexual immorality or drunkenness or anger.....but it hides away instead allowing us to believe that we are just fine when we are not! Colossians 3:5-6 teaches us that idols are far from statues of other gods, but are those things we put in our lives before our God.
Jimmy Needham's lyrics to "Clear the Stage" speak to the truth of this need to recognize what we have placed on our stage as idols. It speaks to the need of clearing the stage as a manner of worship. I hope you will listen to it today, and allow it to speak to your heart as well. Many of us need to repent for putting things before God..for allowing our careers and our desires to come before Him. We need to repent for doubting who He is and who we are in Him, and finding value in our possessions and our status and our social calendar. These are all idols!
Anything I put before my God is an idol. Anything I want with all my heart is an idol. Anything I can't stop thinking of is an idol. Anything that I give all my love is an idol. I can sing all I want to. I can sing all I want to. Sing all we want to, and still get it wrong. Worship is more than a song. "Clear the Stage"
Worship is giving all of your heart to the one who poured His perfect love there. Worship is allowing Him to renew your heart with His love, so that you can love others as you have never before, and as you are called to. Love me with all of your being and then love others as yourself (Deuteronomy 6- D6). If you believe, can you afford to live anyway other than from love? It is time we clear the stage of idols, and put Jesus, the giver of Grace, back where He belongs! And perhaps then, the desires of your heart will manifest into your life:)?
May you seek to be cleansed and renewed and forgiven, so that you can move forward to the life He is calling you!!!
