Dare to get uncomortable.....

I suppose today I want to pose a dare....... a dare to get you a little uncomfortable or perhaps really uncomfortable.

I can admit that I lived too long in a box...small minded and closed off to those not like me or agreeing with what I believe. I heard a pastor say yesterday, "Today people too often decide what they believe and then look for a church that teaches according to that belief." Sad to say, but I agree that it is often true. We want to be comfortable, and if we aren't, we look for a new church or new friends or new neighborhoods that form to what keeps us "safe."

But the essence of Jesus was not about playing it safe....

Come, He calls to Peter. Come out on the water.

And yes, pass the fish and loaves and see that the Lord provides abundantly from little.

We have fished all day they said, but He insisted they try the other side.

If he wouldn't have stepped out of the boat, he would never have been known as the water walker. If they wouldn't have had hope for one more cast, they would have never seen the nets breaking with fish or that multitudes could be fed with food for about 5. The problem is that we may be missing the blessings of God that come with getting uncomfortable. I know I sure did.....

There was actually a time when someone told me to remove from my website that I had read Joel Osteen because people would stop following me if they knew that I read such a man, and I am embarrassed to admit that I removed his name. I was playing safe. Joel has a gift of encouragement, and we need more Joel Osteens today, because people need hope. And the thought that we make judgement on a person because they read one person or quote another is about ridiculous. Who are we to judge especially those that are seeking?  When I am in a season of needing encouragement, I read people like Joel. When I am in a season of studying the Word, I go those that are great teachers like Robert Morris or Chan or when I want to know about living in the presence I read Graham Cooke or Barbara Brown Taylor. When I want to learn Grace I read many including one of the greatest writers of Grace, Manning that died struggling with alcohol, but there was a time that I would have missed the wisdom of such a man, because heaven forbid he struggled.

Dare to be stretched......

Read those that stretch you....that call you to do your own research and make you listen in closely to the Spirit. I love to read those that are scandalous with Grace, and while I may not agree with everything, I always find a pearl or many or maybe the Spirit reveals a piece of me that still hasn't met Grace. I encourage you to learn from many but never let that learning overshadow your own intimacy with the one who teaches all things. When your spirit doesn't rest well with something, dig deep in the Word and ask the Holy Spirit to show you TRUTH. Stretching grows and edifies your own faith.

I wasn't raised in a free worship environment and it made me uncomfortable when I came into freedom of worship until I was away at a retreat alone and decided to taste......and I found the truth of Psalm 63 that worship satisfies something deep that nothing else can touch. Our souls were designed to worship and they long for it, and if on that one day in Colorado Springs that I hadn't dared to step out, I may have missed my source of peace I run to when doubt or fear pokes. Or simply my delight....I find great delight in worship!

I wasn't raised to believe gifts were of our time, and then boldly I lay hands on a woman, along with a room full of others, that had a tumor. There were almost 100 of us praying for this woman, and a week later the tumor is a baby. A baby she was told she couldn't have. So thankful a group of thirsty women decided to say .....

Show us God, if you seek to heal this day, show us. And He did.

It wasn't comfortable at first, but you can believe I will pray healing over a stranger at Walmart now. Once you experience the fullness of God that often comes from being stretched, you begin to seek more!  Reveal something new Father, take me deeper or higher. I want more and you find that............

there is always more!

I dare you to get uncomfortable! And I dare you to allow others to get uncomfortable without casting stones of judgement.

"An experience will beat the best argument everyday," says Bill Johnson.

Maybe we need to seek to experience more and in that seeking, we will find that the Kingdom of Heaven was meant to invade this place.......

On earth as it is in Heaven!

The name of Jesus....the sweetest name I know,

Ro
