21 Day Dare: Day 5- Dare to seek to Know the Holy Spirit
Day Five: Dare to seek to Know the Holy Spirit
15“Loving Me empowers you to obey My commands. (16-17) And I will ask the Father and He will give you another Savior, the Holy Spirit of truth, who will be to you a friend just like Me—and He will never leave you. The world won’t receive Him because they can’t see Him or know Him. But you will know Him intimately, because He will make His home in you and will live inside you.
18“I promise that I will never leave you helpless or abandon you as orphans; I will come back to you! 19 Soon I will leave this world and they will see Me no longer, but you will see Me, because I will live again, and you will come alive too! 20 When that day comes, you will know that I am living in the Father and that you are one with Me, for I will be living in you. 21 Those who truly love Me are those who obey My commandments. Whoever passionately loves Me will be Passionately loved by My Father. And I will passionately love you in return, and will supernaturally manifest My life within you.” 22. Then one of the disciples named Judasa (not Judas the locksmith) said, “Lord, why is it You will only reveal Your identity to us and not to everyone?”
23 Jesus replied, “Loving Me empowers you to obey My word. And My Father will love you so deeply that We will come to you and make you our dwelling place. 24.But those who don’t love Me will not obey My words. The Father did not send Me to speak My own revelation, but the words of My Father. 25 I am telling you this while I am still with you. 26 But when the Father sends the Spirit of Holiness, the one like Me who sets you free, He will teach you all things in My name. He will inspire you to remember every word that I’ve told you. 27.“I leave the gift of peace with you—My peace. Not the kind of fragile peace given by the world, but My perfect peace. Don’t yield to fear or be troubled in your hearts—instead, be courageous!
John 14:15-27 (www.thepassiontranslation.com)
We are in a process of rewiring our hearts and our minds as we take this journey together. The letter kills but the Spirit brings life. When we read the Word without the Spirit (Teacher) we easily take the words as law, as I have done most of my life. I took these words from Jesus as the way to show Him love was to OBEY. I sought with all of my strength to keep the laws and walk in my own righteousness, but in keeping them I had no desire for this intimacy offered here.
What Jesus is trying to teach us is that when we LOVE Him, evidence of that love is obedience. Remember back to the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve walked with God. They were in fellowship with God. They were only forbidden from eating from the tree that bore the knowledge of good vs evil. So basically, their only rule was not to judge. Do you see that? The tree that holds knowledge that would lead them to judgment was off limits, but everything else was freely given to them. They were even naked and unashamed. What this says to me is this…
When we are in fellowship with God we don’t need rules.
If you really ponder this thought it will make sense. We were created for fellowship with Him. We are wired with a longing to lead us always back to Him. When that longing is met, we don’t need the “things” we have used to try to satiate a longing unknown.
We don’t need the “stuff” that we have used to give us identity because our identity comes from being His. We don’t need to over medicate our despair, because we abound in Joy! (In His presence, there is fullness of JOY! Psalm 16) We don’t fall prey to the very things that numb our pain, because we don’t live in pain, we live in victory.
Today, I want you to spend time with John 14. I want you to marinate in the words and let them speak to you. What can you learn about the Holy Spirit in this passage in John? We too often want to read the Bible in a year, but I believe there is greater victory in one verse coming alive to you and manifesting in your own life. He tells us here that the world doesn’t know the Holy Spirit, but we can. When we trust what we do not see, FAITH will manifest a very real presence of God in your life.
What I have found is that the more I obey the whisper to go speak a word, or bless someone or call someone in need or touch a hurting person it is then I see Him.
May the words of John give you desire to become intimately connected with your friend, the Holy Spirit!
In His Grip,
