Key 4: Praise is the Highway to the Throne Room of God
You, God, are my God,
earnestly I seek you;
I thirst for you,
my whole being longs for you,
in a dry and parched land
where there is no water.
I have seen you in the sanctuary
and beheld your power and your glory.
Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you.
I will praise you as long as I live,
and in your name I will lift up my hands.
I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods;
with singing lips my mouth will praise you.
This is one of my favorite Psalms. The words of David stir my soul..... I thirst, I seek, and I am drawn to praise Him. On my trip to Israel, I went to the dry ground he writes of in this Psalm. There I felt that thirst that David related to in this passage. It is not a thirst of someone with easy access to water, but rather a thirst of one who is parched deeply and that water is needed for life. I remember thinking... God may I thirst like David for you.
I also love how David paints this beautiful image of himself praising God with lifted hands and singing lips, and how he speaks to this type of worship to God satisfying his soul.
I am fully satisfied as with the richest of foods!
I declared this Psalm for years before I knew it as truth. I said it proudly, "your love is better than life," yet my reality was that I was spiritually oblivious to His love or worship. To worship God was to open my hymnal and lip synch with a little passion, because my voice was terrible and I was more concerned with someone hearing me than praising Him. On a wild occasion, we may sing "Amazing Grace" with the addition of "my chains are gone!" I would get a little more passionate about being set free, even while I was completely in bondage. Lol! The pride that kept me contained imprisoned to what others thought, also kept me from presence that comes from worship. David is right when we are fully engaged in worship it satisfies a deeper longer. I am beginning to see that their is a deeper spiritual hunger ONLY met through worship.
I heard someone say that praise is the highway to the throne room of God, and I would say that it is my experience. As I have become a worshipper, I have experienced the presence of God unlike I even knew was possible. This doesn't mean that you make a public display at your church, but that you allow the spirit to lead you not public opinion. Raising your hands is a posture of surrender. Bowing is a posture of honor and reverence. Kneeling shows authority. Prostration shows humility.
I am not calling you to make a spectacle in your church on Sunday, but I will give you this key that there are some things you have to WORSHIP off of your life and there are other things you WORSHIP into your life.
But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
I think the best place to start worshipping is in the secret place. And what is done is secret will become the overflow of your life.
Remember this....the enemy of your heart was once a worship leader....the greatest worship leader! He knows that your worship sends ambush against his camp. He knows that you become what you BEHOLD, and he fears you becoming like the image of your creator, so he will steal your praise. He will make it weird. He will cause you to fear the opinions of others more than you praise God.
As they began to sing and praise, the LORD set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated. 2 Chronicles 20:22
May we set ambush against his camp today and praise into our lives the inheritance of heirs.
In Jesus Name,
