1 John- Are you truly a light?

Good morning sweet friends,

I have had such a time reaching you these past few weeks with everything going on in my little world:) My daughter, Holland Rose, turned 12 yesterday, and she has a way of making her birthday last for days........we celebrate with friends, at school, and with family! The never ending birthday;) As a result, I have had to pour on some extra attention to my little men who still haven't grasped the idea that it is her birthday not their day. How quickly they forget the attention they had just two months ago? You would think that I completely forgot their birthday! I remember 12 years ago thinking how exciting to have a baby born on Mother's Day; what a gift! And now I realize that I surrendered my Mother's Day that day......the life of a mom:)Ha!

We have been walking through 1 John, and rather slowly I might add, so I will speed us up today. We are in Chapter 2 verses 7-17, and I encourage you to read these ten verses, because I am giving the "highlights" from my view to move us forward;)

First, it speaks to growing in the light. Verse 9 and 10 tells us that anyone that claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in darkness. But we are in the light when we love our brothers and nothing in us causes us to stumble.

It is a growing process indeed. We grow in the light as we are demonstrating love for others, and if we are still "hating" our brothers, then we have not arrived at His place of love. This certainly doesn't mean that you have to agree with everyone, but that we can operate from a place of love not hate. I believe that God often will put us in situations or encounters that help us deal with those things that need to be released to become this light. For example, if you have ever asked for patience, you have probably found that your patience becomes tested almost immediately and sometimes fiercely!  You may even carry some guilt, because you lose your patience just as you are seeking to walk in it. I believe that is His way of helping us deal with it, so that God can move us to become more patient we must deal with impatience. And I see the same with loving your brother. Just when you seek to walk in love with your fellow man, you can rest assured that someone will do something that takes everything in you to show love, and we may not react with love initially; if we see it as His way of teaching us to love, it is easier to embrace the person or situation with love.

The final verses that I want us to visit today comes from 15-17: Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the father is not in him. For everything of the world- the cravings of sinful man, the lust in his eyes, and the boasting of what he has and does- comes not from the Father but the world.  The world will pass away, but the man who does the will of God will live forever.

It would be easy to camp on these verses for days, but there is no need to unpack what is so undeniably evident. You can't love the "things" of this world and God, because they are not from Him. Certainly, you recognize the things in this world of God....his beaches...his mountain tops....his sounds of birds and waterfalls....his sunsets and rainbows....the beauty of a women set free! Everything of God points to Him. I think this is why we long for vacation, not simply because we need a break, but because we often vacation in places that draw us in to him.....think about it?:)

Father God, We ask this day that you unveil us to More of you. We ask for spiritual eyes to see what is from you and what is not. We ask for hearts that burn with desire to live in your perfect will. We ask for hands and feet that seek to be Jesus for those who do not know you. We ask for ears intuned to your voice. We ask for wisdom that you promise to give abundantly to those who ask without doubt. We release doubt and fear this day, and we chose to walk in the light. Where there is darkness in our lives, Father, we ask that you shine down upon us so that it will flee. May your glory manifest in our lives so heavily that the enemy can not come near. We are chosen. We are set apart. We are yours. May we never, for one moment, forget why we are on this earth.....to bring you glory! Light us on fire, Lord! A fire that can not be contained or diminished.

In the precious name of your son, Jesus, we ask all these things!

Amen. Seek. Love. Follow.

In His Wings, RO
