Do you need a blessing? Over your love life?

And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying,

"Oh that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain." So God granted him what he requested.

Good morning sweet friends,

The past few weeks God has made it quite obvious that He wants me to visit the power of our words to bless our lives, because every scripture I turn to holds a blessing and everything I read is about blessings and people I meet refer to blessings.....so here we are arms open awaiting God to bless us. Surely this is the intent that He would instill this desire to speak blessings, so that He could in-turn reveal the power of blessings? Surely!

It is hard to approach this topic without mentioning this man Jabez that we know so little about aside from this prayer above. This simple man asked God for a blessing, and all that we know is that it was granted. He asked to be blessed.....bless me, enlarge my territory, let your hand be upon me, and keep me from evil and he was......BLESSED! And certainly the reason we find this piece of His life tucked away in scripture is simply for us to see that God blesses, and to seek it!

I was visiting a church on Sunday where I received my final confirmation of this topic of blessings when the pastor introduced his topic, "The Blessings from a Father." In his sharing of biblical blessings passed down from fathers, he stopped to make room for a blessing that he knew would stir the hearts of the women....... God even wants to bless your love life! As you can imagine, most every woman in the room was digging for a pen seeking to capture the source of such a blessing

(Proverbs 5:18-19):

May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth...(leaving out the non PG portions;)....may you ever be captivated by her love.

He wants our husbands to be captivated by our love for them. He wants them to rejoice over us. I wonder how many of you can say, this is my marriage? It is sad to think how many of us are living in unhappy marriages and financial distress and oppression or depression when our design was to be blessed.  Blessed in every way....those who seek God will lack nothing (Luke 1:37)! And when you look at the words of this proverb and you even glance upon the Songs of Solomon, you must know that God is for passionate love in a covenant marriage. No wonder our hearts get stirred up at Nicholas Spark movies...passionate love is in our design.

I suppose the real point of today is that we shift to not only watching what comes from our mouths, because life and death are in the power of the tongue, but being intentional with the blessings that can be imparted into our lives. I truly feel that He wants to bless us. I have before struggled with this notion of asking God for "things"....should I truly be making a request when there are others that may need more or have greater problems than I am facing, but what speaks to me this day is the power of blessings in your life to light the path to His Kingdom. Follow me.....Isn't is true that when God does something amazing in your life that you get on fire or excited or passionate? You want to experience more, right? It draws you in to Him, and edifies your spirit. Those who get to witness share in this revival of spirit all bringing glory to the Kingdom for what He has done....they want it too! Do it for me Lord!

I know from traveling and speaking with different women's groups the women that I most often meet that are radical for Jesus are those that have experienced the hand of God...blessings! The blessing of a healing or the blessing of peace during what should have been a storm taking them out or redemption from financial devastation or the release of an addiction. People that have experienced the Impossible God start living from the Impossible. Recall the life of Saul/Paul, and how he encountered God and was changed.

So then why wouldn't God want to bless us? If it rises up an army and stirs up revival in our hearts and impacts those who witness it, surely God would be for a blessing that would do all such things. So perhaps it is time that we stop limiting our God by the little we expect and perhaps we begin proclaiming the blessings that a perfect Father seeks to impart!

This week, I will seek to look at areas where we are in need of blessings, and find scriptures to speak into our lives to share. It will be a week of Blessings!

Seek. Love. Follow.
